Buca dei Tassi

When you arrive at Buca dei Tassi, or “Badgers Set”, our restored farmhouse in the famous Niccone valley, on the Umbria/Tuscany border, it is our aim that you will also fall in love with this house and the area.

We, the Baffi family have sympathetically restored and constantly updated Buca dei Tassi with respect to the local Umbrian architecture and our family forebears who once lived here. The family living on the upper floor, with the farm animals’ safe in the rooms below.

We decided to divide the house into three apartments, but rent it out as a whole unit, making it ideal for families and groups of friends, very much in the Italian tradition. It comfortably accommodates up to 14 people. Each apartment is self contained but the kitchen in the largest apartment has been arranged so that everyone in the party can cook and eat together. With ample crockery and utensils. All the windows have fly screens.

We gave great thought to the type of holiday you, your friends and family may wish to experience. Holidays today are not just about sitting with a book by the pool, although we have provided all that is necessary for this. We also want our visitors to experience some of benefits of the rural life that Buca dei Tassi was originally used for. With this in mind we have planted a vegetable garden, or ‘orto’ for our guests and depending on the time of year, you can harvest your own zucchini, beans, lettuce and tomatoes. There are also numerous fruit trees, including white and green figs. The garden is planted with traditional plants and bushes such as lavender, rosemary and Roses in the garden and grounds.

The 6000 square meter garden, surrounded by Chestnut woods includes a children’s play area, table football and table tennis, and obviously the huge swimming pool. There is plenty to occupy the younger members of your group. But the adults have not been forgotten, and there are many separate sitting and eating areas, where you can relax with a glass of local wine or just picked sun warmed fig and watch the sun set over nearby Castello di Pierle

We have also created a charming large open covered barn, where you can sit and eat out of the glare of the sun, or sit by candle light at night.

The Apartments
Michelangelo – Sleeps 5
This is the largest apartment and occupies the whole ground floor, with a new kitchen suitable for the whole party. There is a beautiful living space with fireplace and dining area. Large double bedroom, second bedroom with 3 single beds and bathrooms. It also includes an additional separate bathroom that is equipped for disabled use and laundry room all accessible to the 3 apartments.
Outside the entrance doors, the original outdoor oven can be used to make all your favourite pizza’s and the outdoor fireplace can be used to cook that piece of local meat or roast vegetables, or just sit by under the stars. Ample firewood is provided free of charge. There is a new large covered pergola outside this apartment.

Sole – Sleeps 4
This apartment is on the first floor, has a separate entrance and small terrace with a table and chairs for eating al fresco. There is an open plan living space with fireplace and small kitchen area
Sole has a large double bedroom, and a second room with 2 single beds and bathroom with shower.

Belvedere – Sleeps 5
Belvedere is also on the first floor, and has an open plan living area with fireplace and small kitchen area. There is a large double bedroom and a twin bedded room, with bathroom and shower. It has its own entrance from a private terrace with outside table and chairs. Sole and Belvedere have an interconnecting door should you wish to use the apartments as one.


Facilities
As you would expect, all the apartments have been tastefully furnished, the beds and bedding are of a high standard. The new ground floor kitchen has a Dishwasher, large new oven and fridge freezer. All the apartments are equipped with coffee makers and toasters. There is satellite TV within each apartment and free wi-fi internet access. Outside lighting is provided in the garden and down to the pool area andcovered parking for 3 cars.

The huge pool has loungers for 14 people, with umbrellas for shade during the heat of the day, as well as tables and chairs. The chlorine pool is cleaned and maintained 3 times per week by our ground staff. The depth varies from 120 cm to 140 at its deepest.

We also provide bicycles for the more energetic members of your holiday party. There are a number of circular walking and trekking paths close to the house.
